I have been playing around with powdered watercolor - Brusho and Color Burst. You can purchase these powders at craft stores such as Joann's or Ellen Hutson (her service is incredible!) This is a fun way to experiment with color in a number of ways. Just a tip before starting - start with light colors - then add dark. (Use greens sparingly!)
1) Thoroughly wet watercolor paper and sprinkle lightly the Brusho or similar water color pigment (a little goes a long way!). Let the crystals disperse on their own or move the watercolor paper back and forth from side to side to make colors blend.
2) Using dry watercolor paper (shimmer paper from Stamping' Up works well too), sprinkle Brusho sparingly in different areas of the paper. Use spray bottle to spray and move the color around. You can dab off excess water with paper towel.
3) You can also add a bit of Brusho powder mix with water like you would with regular water color. Paint a wash for the background. (I mix my colors on an old, unused frame glass - backing is removed. If you put a white paper towel under the glass, the colors will appear more their natural tones once you start mixing your own.)

Dies for the words hello and hi are from Paper Smooches. This design's background is done with dry watercolor paper and then sprayed with water leaving some of the crystals in place.
